Earth Day
What is Earth Day?
Earth Day is a birthday. It is a special day that celebrates the Earth. It was born on April 22, 1970, in San Francisco, California.
This day was created by American Senator Gaylord Nelson to make people aware of the importance of keeping our planet healthy and clean. On that day, people made promises to help the environment and make positive changes in their community.
Earth Day Flag
It was created by artist and cartoonist Ron Cober in 1969.
According to legend, it was created as a combination of the letters E and O, from the words Environment and Organism. This flag was also based on the Stars and Stripes of the US flag. Green was substituted in place of blue and red. The colours represent "pure air and green land" and environmental action.
